Framework elaboration landmark achieved
The end of the first year of UrbanData2Decide is marked with the completion of the third milestone directly linked to method modelling, visualisation design and framework elaboration. ITU has steered the responsible parties in the four tasks allotted and translates them to a more concrete level that is closer to real-life situations. One of the main tasks thereby is the more detailed outline of the two main applications: the UrbanDataVisualiser and the UrbanDecisionMaker. These applications are modelled in greater detail, especially when it comes to their methods, specifications and visualisations. This framework will serve as a model for the technical proof of concept.
UrbanDataVisualiser
UrbanDataVisualiser identifies common features and functionalities which recur in the national concepts which have been developed, and use these as a basis for extracting generic visualisation types and use cases which any urban data visualiser might be expected to produce and tackle. On this basis, a list of recommended technologies can be developed which fit these differing visualisation types and use cases.
Method Modelling and Visualisation for the UrbanDecisionMaker
Method Modelling and Visualisation for the UrbanDecisionMaker provides an overview of the national concept integration, and describes methods, techniques and approaches used to develop generic reference architecture for the UrbanDecisionMaker. Special attention is given to the cooperation between decision-makers, experts, and citizens. Despite the diversity of the national concepts, a small number of basic concept metaphors emerge. These concept metaphors described in section 4, form the fundamental ingredients for supporting the design of the UrbanDecisionMaker.
Visualisations, Interface Designs and Mockups
Visualisations, Interface Designs and Mockups include the first concrete visualisations and interface designs for different application items and components. A mockup is a realistic representation of what the application can look like. The final result can look exactly like the mockup, or be a variation of it after version revisions. Following this introduction, chapter 2 shows wireframes and mockups of the integrated urban data visualising and decision making framework. Chapter 3 presents interfaces from the different concepts developed by the project partners during the project.
Integrated Framework
Integrated Framework presents the data visualisation and decision making developed framework the state of the art and the national concepts and the definition of common features. The framework consists of both, an overview over what to consider and how to go about when designing data-based visualisation and decision making support and a structured overview over the visualisation and decision making dimensions that need to be decided when developing such support.
Team meeting in London, United Kingdom
The consortium is currently preparing the next project meeting to be held on 24-25 September 2015 in London at the Open Data Institute headquarters.
Upcoming stage of the project
SYNYO will continue to supervise the overall management and coordination of the project while steering the efforts under work package 4 on the proof of concept and demonstrator implementation.
For the next period the team has to provide continuous input for the technical proof of concept while getting the work started on the usability tests required at this stage.
