IoThink: Teaching and learning materials for the conscious use of the Internet of Things
IoThink, the information and knowledge platform on the topic of the Internet of Things and young people, serves as a contact point for anyone who wants to learn more about the possibilities and risks of the Internet of Things in everyday life. Initial materials to raise awareness of IoT security and skills in dealing with IoT devices were developed as part of the Netidee project and are now available on the knowledge platform.
IoThink deals with the increasing importance of the Internet of Things (IoT) against the background of safety-critical aspects in everyday life. The central project goal is to impart safety-conscious action competence in dealing with IoT devices to children and young people, whereby parents and teachers are also among the target groups addressed. Schools, and especially dedicated teachers, are seen as key multipliers for reaching children and young people and informing them about the opportunities but also the possible risks in the everyday use of IoT devices.
Posters, videos & other materials on iothink.at
In the course of the project, initial materials have now been developed that will be made available to target groups and all interested parties on the knowledge platform iothink.at. In order to convey the conscious use of IoT devices, various “codes of practice” for children and young people were translated and prepared. These include tips on the secure use of passwords, networks and secure connections, as well as important information on recognising and avoiding potential dangers. These tips for the safe use of the Internet of Things were made available as posters on the project platform.

The website also provides further information on existing initiatives and sources. In addition to a collection of videos – from explanations of the Internet of Things to do-it-yourself instructions for creating your own devices – the platform also features exciting events in the area of IoT. The offer is supplemented by Did-You-Know-Facts with interesting information about the Internet of Things as well as specially created posters in which the collected knowledge is also presented in a visually appealing way.
Presentation of the interim results at the netidee Spring Talk
In the course of the netidee Spring Talk, the respective interim results of the netidee projects were presented. After the official part, the event provided a great opportunity to exchange ideas with the other teams in an informal setting and to seek help on specialist issues. For IoThink, networking with those projects and initiatives that are already doing education and information work for children and young people was particularly relevant here.
