PlatformUptake.eu: Tools for open platform providers in the AHA/AAL domains to assess the uptake of their solutions
PlatformUptake.eu developed monitoring and self-evaluation tools, which support open platform providers and their users (technology developers and care organisations) in the AHA and AAL domains. They do so by helping them self-assess the success and uptake of the platforms and their progress while developing solutions on top of them. The tools enable the collection and visualisation of platform characteristics, KPI values, statistics metrics, and feedback from the aforementioned users’ perspective that platforms are made comparable across a variety of assessment topics, metrics and indicators.
The tools developed by PlatformUptake.eu support open platform providers and their users (technology developers and care organisations) in the Active and Healthy Ageing (AHA) and Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) domains to self-assess the uptake of the platforms and their progress while developing solutions on top of them. Providers of open platforms can assess how their platforms perform over time and in comparison to their main competitors in different evaluation areas and perspectives based on an easy-to-understand, reliable and repeatable methodology. Hence they can identify their strengths and weaknesses, and focus their efforts on improving them and covering the real needs of their users, thus gaining a larger market share.
Users, such as SMEs or start-ups developing technology for active and healthy ageing can explore the profiles of registered open platforms, compare them and get tailored platform recommendations. They can further provide their feedback regarding their experience from using the platforms for the development of solutions so that their requirements can be considered by platform providers and reflected in future releases of the platforms. Hence, the tools also enable a channel of indirect and anonymous communication among these two stakeholder groups for the exchange of knowledge and information that can be beneficial for both of them.
Designed and implemented specifically to cover the needs and objectives of PlatformUptake.eu project, the tools have a modular and flexible nature, which allows them to be easily adapted. The layer-based service-oriented architecture allows the different components to be individually modified as needed to cover future needs, while the formulas and algorithms used for the normalisation of KPIs, the calculation of scores and performing of other internal procedures can be updated as desired. Furthermore, the tools are not bound to the usage of the particular KPI definitions, statistics metrics and contextual and evaluation questions. With an appropriate choice of these instruments and metrics, the tools could also be used in completely different domains to collect, analyse and visually present information for the assessment of various kinds of solutions or products.
The monitoring and self-evaluation tools are accessible via the navigation bar on the homepage of the PlatformUptake.eu Open Information Hub and require registration for the use of all applied features and functionalities. To promote their wide application to the target end user audience, PlatformUptake.eu conducted a dedicated webinar, during which the tools and their benefits to their potential users were introduced. The participants in the virtual event were also invited to provide questions and comments on the tools and get engaged in discussion about them. The video recording of the webinar can be accessed via the Hub.
