Luckily there exists a vast amount of solutions that cover such areas as safety and security, health, mobility, entertainment or wheelchair accessibility. Due to demographic chances this societal challenge will get even more important over the next years. Despite these pressing needs, no platform exists so far that supports elderly people and their families when they have to make profound adaptation to their homes and additionally offers reliable general advice on these topics. This is especially important since the existing diversity of systems, components, standards and vendors can be extremely confusing for customers and makes it nearly impossible for them to make qualified decisions. The SmartCareBase project provides an innovative web-platform that will offer complementary features that cover the existing needs in an ideal way. The main architecture of the platform will be divided in three distinguished areas that will cover different aspects. On the one hand it will offer a comprehensive knowledge database that allows users an easy access to all relevant information. Additionally the platform will include various features that will enable direct communication and experience sharing between the users. At the same time SmartCareBase will also include experts and vendors so that users can benefit from their knowledge and individual solutions can be developed.
