The stock of motorcycles in Austria has increased constantly since 2000 and has reached a new peak (total increase of 79%). At the same time, the proportion of fatalities among motorcyclists has increased. Accidents in the previous year has stabilized at the level of 2012, and in 2016 counted 85 fatalities. Nevertheless, it develops diametrically to the total number of crashes. Whereas annual improvements among other road users are being achieved, reducing the number of accidents and fatalities, the number of accidents in the two-wheeler sector stagnates at a high level, with the exception of moped riders, where success since the introduction of “moped at 15” (driving license with additional driving training) is in the reduction of accident numbers is recorded.
